This sounds very much like the problems that I had with my Nova-S-plus card while developing a patch to capture line-in audio with composite video. Looking at the docs for the wm8775 it appeared that it wasn't being correctly initialised. I also found need to change the cx88 code to mute/un-mute audio in.
