For further background see my previous message.

This message explains that the problem with device 0x0979:0x0280 which 
Matthias was having appears to be related to running the camera through 
his USB 2.0 hub (details below). I should also mention that I have a 
similar camera myself (same ID) and so does Andy Walls. I never had any 
such problems with my camera, but I do not even own any external USB hub.

i tried another super-cheap hub of a cube with time, temperature, and changing 
colors and holder for pens,
and this hub works ok with the camera.
