Han's argument being that there is no driver using it and no proof that the timecode structure is actually correct. https://linuxtv.org/downloads/v4l-dvb-apis/uapi/v4l/buffer.html#struct-v4l2-buffer On the other-end, my argument was that removing it does not really encourage providing Open Source / Mainline drivers for the relevant hardware (like the Decklink SDI capture cards). Another case would be the ZynqMP SoC which has SDI capture support. Most of the drivers for this SoC is slowly being upstreamed and sooner or later enabling SDI timecode meta-data will be required. Timecode data has been integrated in GStreamer relatively recently (1.10) as there seems to be a regain interest in enabling this television specific feature into Open Source component. You can find more details in Vivia's presentation. Unfortunately, the only HW that provides this data is driven by proprietary drivers (Decklink). https://gstconf.ubicast.tv/videos/smpte-timecodes-in-gstreamer/ https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-base/blob/master/gst-libs/gst/video/gstvideotimecode.h#L76 https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-bad/blob/master/sys/decklink/linux/DeckLinkAPITypes.h#L97 (This implementation is known to inter-op between ISOMP4, MPEG TS and RTP specification) > + > /* Flags for 'flags' field */ > /* Buffer is mapped (flag) */ > #define V4L2_BUF_FLAG_MAPPED 0x00000001 > @@ -1038,6 +1110,35 @@ struct v4l2_exportbuffer { > __u32 reserved[11]; > }; > > +/** > + * struct v4l2_ext_exportbuffer - export of video buffer as DMABUF file > + * descriptor using extended format > + * > + * @index: id number of the buffer > + * @type: enum v4l2_buf_type; buffer type > + * @flags: flags for newly created file(s), currently only O_CLOEXEC is > + * supported, refer to manual of open syscall for more details > + * @first_plane: first plane to export.
