OK, in fact we just want to return to user the extra padding required by
decoder but not to be displayed by user.
So G_SELECTION(OUTPUT) should return -EINVAL.
I must double check but as far as I remember this was coded for
v4l2-compliance crop/compose/scale test cases.
I will re-test returning -EINVAL if OUTPUT.

This was coded because GStreamer v4l2videodec calls G_CROP(CAPTURE) to
get the extra padding not to be displayed.
This is then converted bu V4L2 helpers to G_SELECTION(CAPTURE, CROP) so
to get a functional setup I had to code this way.
This is the same issue than the one encountered by Stanimir for vidc
video decoder.

Now GStreamer codebase have been changed thanks to Philip Zabel (I
suppose because of coda video decoder) through this bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=766381
and now GStreamer calls G_SELECTION(CAPTURE, COMPOSE_DEFAULT) to get
this extra padding if G_SELECTION is implemented.
This have not yet reached GStreamer stable release but will very soon in
1.10.
So I will change the delta code to return padding through
G_SELECTION(CAPTURE, COMPOSE_DEFAULT) and will backport this GStreamer
commit in our codebase.

I'll copy/paste here bug analysis here for clarity:

Agree, I will change our GStreamer codebase to support crop
post-processing by calling S_SELECTION(CAPTURE, COMPOSE)
