Indeed, poor IIfx, mine is a dedicated linux box, meaning that the mac 
partition is only used to boot linux, still the about 50-60 K/s you get 
from the HD scare you away. Still I have hopes in the 2.6 kernels

I had a driver partially written that tried to use the DMA engine, but
it never really worked quite right. The DMA would transfer the data
(I checked the buffer in memory and compared it to disk) but the chip
never actually sent the interrupt to notify the end of transfer. It's
not on top of my list, but I hope to get back to that at some point.
We should be able to max out the sort of old hard drive that would
have come with such a system by using real DMA.
