Hi Finn,
Actually, I have not tested the Debian kernel. Both kernels are my own build; the only difference between them is that I set a boot_delay on the kernel command line which stops it from shutting down. If you'd like a copy of my config, let me know.
Thanks,
J Silverman

Hi Brad and Finn,
Even though I was not able to get the floppy disk
drive to be
recognized, I was actually able to mount the internal
hard drive even
with the noted SCSI bus error. Once I put the hfs
drivers in the
kernel, it mounted fine, and I was able to get a copy
of the dmesg:
http://pastebin.ca/1177684
Thanks.
The "pmu intr 00" messages continue on for a
great deal at the end, so I
cropped them down. I hope this helps debug the issue.
I think I'll need to borrow a PB 5x0 to debug this,
unless the bug is
simply a noisy driver.
What I don't understand is why the Debian kernel causes
the machine to
power down but your kernel does not.

Hi Brad and Finn,
I tried setting up my system so I can use the
floppy drive
to copy the dmesg. However, I'm not positive
that Linux
is seeing the floppy drive. I made a device node
(major 2,
minor 0) for the drive and tried to mount the
disk and eject
the disk, but it says it's invalid. Is the
major/minor
numbers different on m68k macs?
Thanks,
J Silverman

Hi Brad and Finn,
I finally got a completely bootable floppy
disk setup
with
an initramfs and I'm happy to report
that the
keyboard
does work. However, in the dmesg I got from
the fully
booted system, I saw many "pmu intr
00"
messages.
Lots and lots of them. I'm going to try
to devise
a way
to get a copy of the dmesg off the system
tomorrow.
Thanks,
J Silverman

I think the "pmu intr

might be
significant. My PB 190cs
prints that only once (see below)
but ADB
works
(I was
able to use the

the trackpad
with
gpm). I noticed that
pmu_restart() works but
pmu_read_pram() does
not.
This kernel is kernel.org version
2.6.26.2.
It
has the
macscsi lockup bug,
of course, but that bug somehow
failed to
manifest in
both J's video and
the bootup in the log below.
I'm wondering if the PB190 actually
has a
newer
version
of PMU that just
looks enough like the one in the PB2xx
and PB5xx
models
that the driver
happens to work for both. The PB190 is
known to
be
very
similar to the
ppc based PB5300. It may be a more
reliable
version of
the
chip.
