Are you sure this doesn't just happen with CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES, CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE or CONFIG_GCOV_PROFILE_ALL, or with versions of gcc before 4.9?
