How to do code cleanup

Saw this at LWN, thought it was pertinent (it came out of the latest
kernel summit):

What people would like to see, perhaps, is a more targeted approach to cleanup patches. Rather than trying to fix a small problem across the entire tree, pick a file or two with problems and try to take care of everything there.

This should probably be in bold type on the wiki or something.
