ah, it goes the other way.  (i'm assuming you really meant asflags-y
above, and this would also include EXTRA_LDFLAGS -> ldflags-y, yes?)

  yeah, that might take a while for ccflags-y, although the ldflags-y
transformation looks fairly small.
