Lenovo Ideapad 320-15IAP elan_i2c kernel errors in syslog

Hi,

Kai-Heng Feng from bugs.launchpad.net advised me to post to this mailing list.

I own a 320-15IAP, freshly bought and installed with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. The touchpad stops working after some time and syslog is spammed with the following errors, if the touchpad is touched:

"kernel: [ 1228.364151] elan_i2c i2c-ELAN0609:00: invalid report id data (ff)"

How could I approach this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know, if further information would be helpful. With kernel v4.19 the issue persists.
