Random asside whilst I'm here.  I'd like ideally to see the callbacks
structure split into constant function pointers and data that actually
changes (such as the priv field passed as a parameter to the callbacks).
Would lead to slightly neater and safter code.

Why not make priv the indio_dev directly? I would imagine it's the pdev
passed in when registering the callbacks below.
