There are a few minor things in here that I think need tidying up. I've done it and applied, but please check my changes and get back to me if I've messed anything up! Particularly around the polynomial stuff where the original seems to be bonkers in terms of efficiency. (though I would imagine the compiler will notice and optimize it out).
