IA64 got ftrace support a while ago, but recently ftrace grew a dependency on CONFIG_STACKTRACE_SUPPORT and CONFIG_TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT so it happens to be disabled in current mainline. Interestingly those two dependencies are also the same that are required for lockdep, which means IA64 never supported lockdep (quite scary, eh?)
