qla1280 driver failure

Hello.

I've been trying to install Red Hat Linux 7.1 on my BigSur Itanium 1
machine (almost identical to HP i2000). Once the initial kernel boot
stage is passed, the text-mode installer shows up saying "Loading
qla1280 driver..." Then, in 8-10 seconds, I lose the video signal on my
monitor. I've had the exactly same problem with any other IA-64 Linux
distribution (though didn't know it was about that particular driver).
What do I do? There's a single SCSI hard drive installed in my machine.
I could replace it with a regular ATA drive, but is it possible to
prevent the qla1280 driver from loading?

Thanks in advance!
Alex.
