I found that returning an error here, due to this being a composite device, causes all the other interfaces on the device to not be probed by their correct drivers. Above, you will see an explicit check for the HID usage of this HID device matching the command device's expected HID usage. This probe function runs on multiple interfaces, and for some reason, if it returns an error, the HID subsystem does not continue with probing. I did not find a way to only probe on the correct interface.
