Are those typecasts really needed ? That would surprise me. You are clamping
against negative values below, but that can not really happen since word
is u16 and, after the above code (u16 0xffff will be int 0xffff divided by 10,
or 6554), will never have bit 15 set. So the question is if 0xffff represents -1
or if it represents 6554. Either case some of the code is wrong (unless I am
missing something, of course ;-).
