Any special reason for not using regmap_update_bits() ? Also, why
regmap_raw_read() and regmap_raw_write() instead of just regmap_read()
and regmap_write() ?

There is a lot of similar code below. I don't really see the benefit of
switching to regmap if we don't use the functions it provides.

I don't immediately see the benefit of returning an error here.
That seems to be quite random (it only returns an error if the
most recent operation failed).
