PROBLEM: Repeatable kernel SOFTLOCKS from modprobe, lsmod, and any attempt to read /proc/modules (grep/cat, etc.)

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

SUMMARY OF PROBLEM
-------------------
Virtually all attempts to do modprobe, depmod, lsmod, or reading /proc/modules or trace process doing such results in a kernel hang and hence an unkillable process

FULL DESCRIPTION
-----------------
Started noticing that virtualbox-3.1 would not completely install because the installation got stuck on lsmod. One looking at the kernel logs I started noticing the following scroll by every few minutes:

I haven't been able to find any workarounds. However, in single user mode, lsmod, etc. do not hang, but then it does appear that kthreadd has created ecryptmgr_probe which I suspect is the cause of this softlock.

I will appreciate any help.
