My memory is a bit fuzzy on all of this but I'm pretty sure that this
is what duperemove does. From what I recall, 'bytes_deduped' got
turned into 'this is how far into the request I went'. Not the
greatest I know, but as you point out, it works and we shouldn't break
it.
