My position, *after due consideration*, is that we're better off making the pidfd poll() system a level-triggered exit-only signal and defer more sophisticated monitoring to a separate facility. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be able to monitor processes. I'm saying that there are important technical and API design reasons why the initial version of the pidfd wait system should be simple and support only one thing.
