PROBLEM: slow NFS locking "lockd: failed to monitor xxxxx"

[1] slow NFS locking, dmesg reports "lockd: failed to monitor xxxxx"

[2] Applications which set locks in NFS mounted home directories start
very slowly.

dmesg shows the following, repeated over and over:

lockd: cannot monitor cabinet
lockd: failed to monitor cabinet

(cabinet is running Solaris 7 with standard NFS server)

When the problem manifests itself the client machine does not show any
unusual loading.

[X] Workaround appears to be to run an earlier kernel.  I have observed
2.6.16.27 working on the same machine and otherwise identical
installation without this problem.
