The only thing I did differently was using this option in mke2fs: "-E lazy_itable_init=0,lazy_journal_init=0" Could the lazy initialization be tripping it up? That doesn't make much sense, because I had been having this problem for some time before doing all these formatting experiments. I will attach ftrace and memstats shortly. Joseph D.
