The FS was created with 'mkfs.ext4 -m 0 /dev/vdb', iirc.

I can test away on this box. As long as my data stays safe. :-)
I have to admit i haven't compiled my own *kernel* since 2.4.x so i took
the Ubuntu package and patched that with the WARN_ON(1) call. Building
takes ages, but i will report my findings.

This is all correct. The host has LVM running, one logical volume is
'exported' to the guest through qemu (2.0) with virtio driver.
