Why would we NOT update the length/range of the parent block? Where EOF/i_size happens to land should be orthogonal to how the extent tree is described, I would expect. I asked in: Subject: fallocated blocks past EOF & past parent node range OK? but there's been no discussion so far. I'd like to understand why it's felt that the tree above is not considered to be corrupt.
