dx_root takes 32 bytes from 60 bytes of i_data.  The beginning of
dx_entries is controlled by info_length, that is, dx_root->info +
dx_root->info->info_length.   It seems that we can put the new tree
root behind dx_root and add the length of the new tree root to
info_length.  Then the old code can handle new filesystem and new code
can handle old filesystem because of the flag you described above.

If no one attempts to do it ,  I can do it as a google summer of code project.
