The first round of keynote speakers were confirmed this month and include: * Ravi Simhambhatla, vice president and chief information officer at Virgin America, the San Francisco-based domestic airline. Simhambhatla will share how he sold the use of Linux and open source to internal colleagues and how he and his teams are maximizing it today. * The Linux Kernel Roundtable. LinuxCon is one of the only places attendees can hear directly from the Linux kernel developers. The Linux Kernel Roundtable will include a hand-selected group of top maintainers who include: - James Bottomley, Novell distinguished engineer and Linux Kernel maintainer of the SCSI subsystem, the Linux Voyager port and the 53c700 driver; - Jon Corbet, Linux kernel developer and editor, Linux Weekly News (LWN); - Dave Jones, Fedora kernel maintainer; - Chris Mason; director of Linux kernel engineering at Oracle and creator of the btrfs file system; and - Ted Ts’o, North America’s first kernel developer and fellow at Google. * Eben Moglen, founding director of the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC). Moglen will discuss legal defense strategies for Linux and open source software projects. * Stormy Peters, executive director of the GNOME Foundation, will explore how data is being stored and accessed in the cloud and what that means for Linux and open source. * Jeffrey S. Hammond, principal analyst, Forrester Research. Hammond will present recent data that shows increased developer adoption of open source platforms. LinuxCon will also be host to a variety of mini-summits taking place on August 9, 2010. Mini-summits currently include: KVM Forum; Linux Storage & Filesystems Workshop; and the Linux Security, Education, Bluetooth, Tracing and Power Management Summits. LinuxCon Brazil will take place August 31 – September 1, 2010 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Confirmed speakers for LinuxCon Brazil include Linux creator Linus Torvalds and lead Linux maintainer Andrew Morton, who will together deliver a keynote discussion about the future of Linux moderated by The Linux Foundation’s Jim Zemlin. For example, according to recent research, Linux server adoption among small and midsize businesses (SMBs) is 25 percent higher in the Asia-Pacific region and growing faster than the worldwide average. Linux veteran Cliff Miller, who co-founded TurboLinux among his many other accomplishments, will lead efforts in China to facilitate collaboration with exclusive events and training courses, among other activities.
