was not working. On another PC using 2.6.21 once saw that usb was
unregistering by itself. Back to the media PC, if it happens again will do
strace lircd. Also this is lirc 0.7.0 patched with divco, will upgrade but
think this is a usb issue.

one for the IR interface on the card? Maybe use udevinfo to confirm
this. It's quite possible devices got renamed in the upgrade, as you
are very likely to have other HID devices on the system (ie - keyboards,
etc). Also, udev does not guarantee unique device names, so you may
have to write a udev rule to ensure you get a consistent device, or use
the /by-id/ paths in /dev.
