Hi James,
Some general responses:
1. Up to 4 adapters are supported by Linux

I do not think so. No idea. Ask Markus Rechberger please.
SNR and signal strength do not depend on the bus type the devices are connected as far as I know......

Apart from that I am working on a script / app with which you can optimize all DVB-T and DVB-S services of whatever kind - with only ONE CARD IN YOUR PC.
In so far the assumption (and thus the software architecture of apps like MYTHTV and VDR) is rather oldfashioned, conservative, if not to say: Utmost reactionary!
