There is no CAM message in your log.
There should be a line like

Nov 17 17:38:20 video vdr: [2906] CAM: AlphaCrypt, 01, 4A20, 4A20

which indicates that VDR has established communication
with the CAM.

True, not in that log, but it does appear in some other restart logs,
without seeming to help much:

...
Nov 18 02:03:41 piglet kernel: dvb-ttpci: firmware @ card 0 supports CI link
layer interface
...
Nov 18 02:03:42 piglet vdr: [10643] VDR version 1.4.3-1 started
...
Nov 18 02:03:44 piglet vdr: [10643] switching to channel 44

Actually VDR should wait at this point until all CAMs are ready,...

...
Nov 18 02:03:44 piglet vdr: [10643] timer 3 (44 0050-0210 'Is It Real?:
Exorcism') start
Nov 18 02:03:44 piglet vdr: [10643] record
/srv/vdr/Is_It_Real#3F#3A_Exorcism/2006-11-18.00.50.80.99.rec
Nov 18 02:03:48 piglet vdr: [10643] stopping recording due to modification of
channel 44
Nov 18 02:03:48 piglet vdr: [10643] timer 3 (44 0050-0210 'Is It Real?:
Exorcism') stop
Nov 18 02:03:48 piglet vdr: [10643] retuning due to modification of channel 44
Nov 18 02:03:48 piglet vdr: [10643] switching to channel 44
Nov 18 02:03:48 piglet vdr: [10643] timer 3 (44 0050-0210 'Is It Real?:
Exorcism') start
Nov 18 02:03:48 piglet vdr: [10643] record
/srv/vdr/Is_It_Real#3F#3A_Exorcism/2006-11-18.00.50.80.99.rec
Nov 18 02:03:59 piglet vdr: [10647] CAM: Conax 4.00e, 01, 0B00, 04B1

...but the CAM only gets ready here, when the timer has already
started recording.

Are there any patches involved that might disturb this?
Have you tried "plain vanilla" VDR, yet?

Klaus
