take a look at usr/share/doc/udev/
if there is nothing usefully, maybe a tail -f /var/log/*
do the job.
I finally found udevmonitor - its in /usr/bin (why???????!?!?!?). Cant
they put the executeables in one place (sorry for the complaints, but
why do they always have to scatter things everywhere so you can never
find anything).
Anyway, heres the output produced when i plug the devices usb cable in -
hopefully someone can make some sense of it!!!

says, that your devices under /dev/dvb are created.
as user: you need permissions there. i do a
chown -R root.<your-user name> /dev/dvb
but first of all: what did dmesg say, after plugging the stick.
any entries related to firmware ???
try again: udevmonitor in one console, tail -f /var/log/* in another
