Assuming VDR only cares about broadcast services (TV + radio),
is the s2_satellite_delivery_system_descriptor relevant
for VDR? All of it or just parts? And why?
Most of it. (It is not specific to VDR .. we wouldn't be making the API
VDR dependent rather rather application independent .. ;-) Some people
say it has to platform independent too .. :-D)
Well, VDR doesn't care about MPE, so it doesn't care about
the dvb_net API...
Similarly, if e.g. the scrambling_sequence_index would only
be relevant for IP-via-DVB applications, VDR wouldn't need
to care about it, altough it might be part of the DVB API.
Well, i hope we don't touch MPE and those in this changeset. we can take
a go at it in another change.
I hope you don't mind. Moreover i have not much of an idea about MPE at
this point of time.
According to my current understanding, all parts of
the S2 descriptor might be relevant to receive NBC-BS in
MIS or BC-BS mode, except for the scrambling_sequence_index,
where I have no idea what it is good for.
Reading EN 300 468 again..
6.2.13.3 S2 satellite delivery system descriptor
This descriptor is only required if DVB-S2 is not used in Normative
Broadcast Mode (NBC-BC) In Normative Broadcast Mode (NBC-BS) the
satellite delivery system descriptor is sufficient.
EN 302 307 page 7
VCM may be applied on multiple transport stream to achieve a
differentiated error protection for different services. Two modes are
available:
(1) NBC-BS (Non Backward Compatible Broadcast services) is not backward
compatible with EN 300 421
(2) BC-BS (backward compatible Broadcast Services) is backward
compatible to EN 300 421
So in anyway it(NBC-BS/BC-BS) is according to either Hierarchial
modulations or it is not. (since we have now chopped off layered
modulations from the list to be discussed now)
In this case, what does the s2_satellite_delivery_system_descriptor mean
? I find it that, it is present in BC-BS and it says that it will not be
there in NBC-BS
Do we agree ?
