I had the same experience using the mercurial tree. That is why I simply
prefer solutions without mercurial tree (i. e. latest kernel from kernel.org
plus additional self-built patches that I publish here as far as necessary).
My modules are kindly small and very very efficient.
The mercurial tree is only relevant for me to find parts of hunks or patches
in order to help myself for providing a personal solution.
