Hi The 771 does not use firmware. Good luck with the Gentoo install. I got an Avermedia 771 card working on my brothers PC last Friday. I can send you a copy of the kernel config if that would help. (2.6.14 gentoo r5). Its strange, he moaned that when running windows the card hardly worked, yet is pleased as punch with mythtv and linux.
