[linux-dvb] Most probably broken Twinhan FTA-Card ?!

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi list,

I have a strange problem with my Twinhan DVB-T-FTA-card ("Hama DVB-T
PCI-Card") that makes me believe my card broke. The problem persists for
approx. 1 year now, but I'm too busy (or lazy ;) ) to dig deeper into
it. Now I found some time. But here's the prob:

When watching tv (vdr) it takes ~5minutes for the SNR to drop to zero
after booting the pc, which leads to no picture+sound at all.
Nevertheless signal strength remains stable around 70-90% depending on
the channel (or transponder, whatever) all the time. Maybe 50% of the
time it takes 1minute until SNR raises again to normal (70-90%).
Sometimes it stays stable for the time I watch, but mostly after lets
say 30min. it drops again to zero and remains, or again returns. If it
remains 0% the only chance I have to bring it back is to poweroff my pc
and wait some minutes. Its annoying, as one might imagine.
(Thank god there's only crap on TV so I dont watch too much anyway ;) )

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, maybe this helps (femon):
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 6000 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 6000 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 5f00 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 5f00 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK
// the moment it drops to zero.... :(
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 0000 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 0000 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal 4d00 | snr 0000 | ber b7e1c2c3 | unc bfc28a18 |
FE_HAS_LOCK

What I tried:
    - different pci-slots
    - Put the card into 3 different PCs with no such luck (OS was linux
+ windows)
    - different dvb-drivers from different dates all over the year.
currently the one from cvs with kernel-2.6.13.1
    - put a fan near the card to avoid overheating
    - different vdr-version (well, not the point IMHO), mplayer, xine...
    - do something nice with my girlfriend instead of watching tv

What I noticed today (this is why i'm writing this email ), dmesg tells
me the following the moment SNR drops to zero (but maybe I'm wrong):
    - "bt878(0): irq FDSR risc_pc=<differs>"
I saw its possible to let the bt8xx chip ignore IRQ-FDSR-errors in
dvb-bt8xx.c. I added BT878_AFDSR to card->irq_err_ignore in the
dvb_bt8xx_probe()-function in its BTTV_BOARD_TWINHAN_DST-section. But it
didn't have the desired effect.
It's likely this is total nonsense, or does not even have any effect.

Now, has anyone seen such problem before ? Am I right, that my card is
most probably broken ?
Thank you for listening, any help appreciated! If you need more info,
please tell me so.

Regards,
Martin Cap
