I took a look at your patch and tried to adapt it for the dvb-usb-stuff, 
but it wasn't that easy. (or I was too stupid)

The problem I was facing is, that when using the normal "internal" 
frontend-driver API (which is the case for all other drivers) you don't 
really have access to actual open and close call of the application.

After figuring that out I think that the mechanism of your patch should be 
adapted to dvb-core to support the safe-hotplug for _all_ 
dvb-device-drivers.

Do you think you could try to adapt it to be done in dvb-core?
