Which kernel and patch-level are you using? I'm guessing right now that you might need to tell your sound capturing software to use device 1 instead of device 0. It might be as simple as having to load ALSA after loading the bt8xx drivers. I'm interested in doing the same thing with my system but always thought the two cards would cause lock ups.
