I have the Hauppaugue Nova-T PCI card and no patches have made the 
remote work properly, most times it's been dead. I've also seen a recent 
patch on here where it was modified, e.g 0x14 was removed and that is 
one of the codes mine generates.
It seems these remotes are so different, that you'd need some form of 
artificial intelligence to interrrogate them and come up with a suitable 
keymap.
I'm now on 2.6.13-rc3 vanilla on Mandrake 10.1, not a peep out of the 
remote with kaffein, klear or xawtv, except when I "cat 
/dev/input/event3" and press keys. The evbug module refuses to load, so 
I can't get to see what's happening.
