I have had to reinstall the linux partion of my system, just the operating system, not the /home.. partition. this is mandrake 10.1, 2.6.8.1. I have recompiled the kernel to include the drivers and lsmod says skystar2 25092 0 stv0299 12136 0 dvb-core 77288 2 skystar2,stv0299 although the lines in etc/modprobe.conf and the lines in rc.local no longer load at boot. modprobe.conf # skystar2 options dvb-core dvb_shutdown_timeout=0 alias char-major-250 skystar2 install skystar2 { /sbin/modprobe stv0299; } ; /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install skystar2 remove skystar2 /sbin/modprobe -r --first-time --ignore-remove skystar2 && { /sbin/modprobe -r stv0299; /bin/true; } # rc.local has modprobe skystar2 Nor does the call to script makedev-dvb.sh which used to create the devices on boot work. However I create then by hand in dev @localhost dvb]$ ls -al adapter0 total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 simon video 200 Apr 6 18:27 ./ drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 120 Apr 6 18:27 ../ crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 1 Apr 6 18:27 audio0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 6 Apr 6 18:27 ca0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 4 Apr 6 18:27 demux0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 5 Apr 6 18:27 dvr0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 3 Apr 6 18:27 frontend0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 7 Apr 6 18:27 net0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 8 Apr 6 18:27 osd0 crw-rw---- 1 simon video 250, 0 Apr 6 18:27 video0 and scan/kaffeine etc cannot access them.
