OK. It appears the problem in patch 2 is due to Greg applying your
"staging: comedi: simplify comedi_set_hw_dev()" patch. The change
to that function is causing my patch not to apply.

I'm not sure why it's reporting a trailing whitespace issue. I don't
see any in the patch.

Regardless, I'll rebase the series to Greg's staging-next branch and
repost.
