He doesn't have a device yet. BTW -- I saw your log, I hadn't had time to reply yet but here it is -- your device seems to have set the device ID string to 0x0, my samples are 0x9170. You can add 0x0 case to hw.c on ath9k_hw module to see if that follows through. I think this is why initialization fails for you.
