Steve, all here is a re-send of the initial 6 patches to move towards compounding support. I fixed build issue sin the initial patch. I think the initial patch is fairly trivial and low risk so you may consider merging it. The second patch still has a bug with the handling of error response packets which break some of the xfs tests.
