I have the appropriate firmware with "brcm_patchram" loaded on my BCM43142
(ThinkPad Edge E545) from github and still no connections can be built.

modprobe -v btusb; echo "04ca 2007" >> /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id;
hciconfig hci0 up; /opt/brcm_patchram/brcm_patchram_plus_usb --patchram
/lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0084.0115.hcd hci0

But at least finds "hcitool scan" the devices.
