I have the same problem running kernel 3.16. `uname -a`:

Linux deneb 3.16.0-25-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 7 01:53:40 UTC 2014 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I am using Linux Mint 17 64 bits with the described Bluetooth adapter. `lsusb`:

....
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle
(HCI mode)
....

As you have said, there are two different patches (elegant and non-elegant). I
see that my kernel (3.16.0-25) has the elegant patch, but not the non-elegant
and I can confirm that my bluetooth doesn't work. I see that this non-elegant
change hasn't been added to the new kernel versions. Is there any reason for
that?
