Sony BD Remote (different approach)

is there a distribution (fedora, ubuntu,...) where this remote works 
(out of the box)?
if there is then i can build a machine with that on it and study what is 
going on in an effort to understand why it won't work for me on my 
current setup (gentoo, with bluez from git, and lirc)
