Hello,

O.K. I have been thinking about this. If in your case what fails is
bcache, perhaps it would be interesting to make a suggestion:

There is a Python tool (blocks, as it is in the FAQ) which allows to
"transform" a filesystem into bcache without losing data. In the same
manner, perhaps the author could add the functionality of returning a
"bcacheized" filesystem to its original format, without the bcache
superblock (and stuff?).

With a tool like that (I guess it would be very easy to add this
functionality), you could return your /home to a pure ext4 filesystem
and then mount, backup, create a new bcache, etc.
