mididings will be fine, puredata will need a little setting up ... it can run and connect to midi etc headless from the command line (it needs a small delay before starting audio if you were doing that) ... but for this task unless you are familiar with puredata or want to do more then mididings (or the ready-to-go supercollider script) is a better way to go.
