The Ubuntu LTS is upstart and will not change. Two years till 1604 which will be systemd. Considering where the init -> upsart -> systemd thing has gone, I wouldn't want to be working on MIR. It seems in the end Ubuntu follows Debian... So MIR (X replacement) may also come and go. Kubuntu it seems will keep X alive and well and xubuntu and ubuntustudio may continue to use X as well.
