Not sure what you are saying ... that I'm screwing something up in how
I'm using it?

Yeah I should install the old desktop and try it - I'll do that.  I
had been doing that for some time with Ubuntu but finally gave in and
started using the new one. I use it here at work too.  It really is
not that bad.  Though at home I get an error every time I log in so it
does not like something about my hardware I guess.

I'll install the traditional desktop and try it.
