Frames/Period 256, Periods/Buffer 2, IOW a latency of 10.7 ms IMO can be
used at least for studio work.

Using external synth could become an issue regarding to MIDI jitter, but
this is not an issue for virtual synth.

The OP should be aware that playing the instrument when using audio to
MIDI conversion, can't be done, as it's done without the conversion.
