Yesno, it depends to the used WM/DE. I even don't use Xfce anymore, but
switched to JWM. However, AFAIK even Xfce doesn't come with hard
dependencies to PA, AFAIK just bloated DEs like GNOME ship with unneeded
dependencies like a hard dependency to PA.
And KDE.
